Kindle is on fire. Amazon has announced its partnership with Nokia to release new mapping services with serious sales appeal. Mapping is increasingly responsible for the success of mobile advertising, as the norm for Americans becomes browsing and deciding where to shop and eat on the go. But mapping isn’t the only thing Amazon has in mind.

Teaming up with Nokia means more mobile device features could be on the way.

One leaked photo of the Kindle Fire 2 suggests a front-facing camera. Some have even indicated video calling capabilities are next. So instead of FaceTime, will it be FireTime? I can see everyone gathering round’ the campfire now.

Amazon plans to launch the Kindle Fire 2 on September 6. Not only have the Kindle Touch and Kindle Fire sold out, there are rumblings about a complete revamp of the Kindle product line. One juicy rumor has it Amazon will release a 10-inch product to rival the iPad. Amazon already has 22 percent of the U.S. tablet market, so these new products could tip the scales in Amazon’s favor.

Internet entrepreneurs and marketing experts follow these tech developments closely, including new features of mobile devices and gadgets. They know that mapping and search engines go hand-in-hand, and that advertising revenue depends on keeping up with technology. If the kingdom of mapping and searching is currently ruled by Google, Amazon may just be looking to be the next successor.
